St. James Lutheran Church & School has been a part of the Quincy community since 1851. Convinced that we do not live on bread alone but on every Word that proceeds from the mouth of God, from the year of its founding, St. James has had a grade school.
The mission for both our Church & School is, “Seeing Jesus and Causing Him to be seen!” He (Jesus) must increase and we must decrease. (John 3:30) We’d love to have you join us as we “Behold the Lamb of God, Who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29). Jesus is the One who gives us life in all of its fullness (John 10:10). It doesn’t get any better than that.
With the universal Christian Church, The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod teaches and responds to the love of the Triune God: the Father, creator of all that exists; Jesus Christ, the Son, who became human to suffer and die for the sins of all human beings and to rise to life again in the ultimate victory over death and Satan; and the Holy Spirit, who creates faith through God’s Word and Sacraments. The three persons of the Trinity are coequal and coeternal, one God.
When you come to St. James you will find people who enjoy spending time with God and with each other. You will find people who look for opportunities to serve where God leads. You will find people who are delighted to have you join them on their walk with God.
When you come to St. James your will find a church that values God’s Word highly and seeks to teach it faithfully. We do so through our traditional worship (out of the Lutheran Service Book hymnal) on Sunday mornings, through our day school, and through Bible studies for all ages on Sunday morning and during the week. At the center of God’s Word is the Good News about God’s love for us in Christ. Our goal is to plant God’s love into the hearts of people so that it affects our church, our home, and our community.
If you are visiting, we pray that you feel comfortable when you walk in and that you are greeted with a smiling face. Please don't hesitate to ask to meet an elder and Pastor Riley.
